Counseling Core Curriculum: Classroom Lessons
Classroom lessons taught by the counselor(s) are presented to all students at Nottingham. The counseling core curriculum provides structured sequential activities to address academic, college and career readiness, and social/emotional content.
- The lessons are based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Standards, and Arlington County Public Schools Competencies and Indicators for the School School Counseling Program.
- The lessons about learning and social emotional use evidence-based materials that include the Second Step program by the Committee for Children, MindUp (Goldie Hawn Foundation) and the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.
Teachers may also request additional lessons to address specific needs unique to their class.
The lessons are planned around themes used at all the grade levels:
- Academic Success (Goal Setting)
- Bullying Behaviors
- Emotional regulation
- Problem Solving
- College and Career Readiness, and
- Personal Safety.
