In coordination with the Arlington County Police Department, we have just concluded our third of four state-mandated lockdown drills for the 2016-2017 school year. Our procedures have been developed with the assistance and guidance of police and public safety officials. Like all other safety drills such as fire, tornado, earthquake and bus safety drills, the purpose of today’s exercise was to practice the procedures used in the event that we have to put an emergency plan into action.
Ms. Pelosky and I walked the building with Arlington County police officers to ensure that procedures were followed and to make any adjustments to procedures, if necessary. Safety drills help us ensure that our students and staff know what to do, where to go, and how to respond if an emergency occurs. As always, our first priority is the safety and well-being of our Knights, our staff, and visitors.
In an earlier statement after one of our lockdown drills we had explained that two of the four lockdown drills were to be conducted with the support of law enforcement and two were not. At this time, all lockdown drills will be held with the support of officers from the Arlington County Police Department.
Sincerely, John Koutsouftikis
