Notes from Nottingham – April 20, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you know, APS is working on the first phase of the Elementary School Planning Initiative. I met with many of you on Tuesday night. Wednesday morning, I attended an Elementary Principals Meeting. At that meeting, considerable time was devoted to the Elementary School Location Review and analysis of preliminary data. Central office staff took note of the concerns and ideas expressed by the principals. There is another meeting for principals on April 26.

I want to assure you that I am fully engaged in working for Nottingham. The fact that I am your acting principal in no way lessens my voice in the process.

A School Talk was sent today and references the documents that are available for review at:
www.apsva.us/elementary-school-boundary-change/location-review and www.apsva.us/elementary-school-boundary-change

Please feel free to reach out to me with questions or concerns.

The 3rd Annual Discovery/Nottingham Friendship 5K is tomorrow. The race starts at 8:00 AM from Nottingham.

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and Nottingham will be honoring our volunteers this Monday morning, April 23rd. If you are room parent, regular volunteer or PTA volunteer, please stop by the main hall between 8:30 and 9:00 for a small thank you gift and see how our grateful our Knights are for all the hard work you do.

On Monday, April 23rd, contractors will begin work on Nottingham Street between Little Falls Road and Williamsburg Boulevard. The first leg of the work will be to mill the road and should be completed by Tuesday, April 24th. The second leg of the work, paving, will most likely begin the following week. Again, this should only be, at most, a two-day job.

The work should not impact pedestrian traffic in any manner. Sidewalks should remain open and all pedestrians will be able to navigate to and from school safely. We have been informed that contractors will only work between the hours of 9:15 a.m.-3:00 p.m. This will be the schedule, weather permitting.

Please notify Mr. Koutsouftikis, john.koutsouftikis@apsva.us or (703) 228-5290, immediately if there are any concerns regarding pedestrian safety.

Yearbook Price Will Increase on May 1 – If you haven’t purchased a yearbook for your child(ren) yet, the price will rise from $25 to $30 on May 1. The last possible day to purchase a yearbook is May 15 @ midnight. For questions, please email webmaster@nespta.org.

MayFest will be on Sunday, May 6. 12:00-3:00. Please consider donating your time for this fun event.

If you have a rising Kindergarten student or know a neighbor who has one, please stop by and register as soon as possible. We’d like to get all next year students in the system as early as possible. Please see any front office staff with questions.

Best,
Connie Skelton
