Principal’s Notes from Nottingham – Sept. 20 – Lockdown DRILL

Dear Parents/Guardians:
In coordination with the Arlington County Police Department, we have just successfully concluded our first of four district-mandated lockdown drills for the 2016-2017 school year. In past years we have only been required to have two lockdown drills per school year. We will have one more drill with the ACPD and two drills will be conducted without the assistance of the ACPD. Our procedures have been developed with the assistance and guidance of police and public safety officials. Like all other safety drills such as fire, tornado, earthquake and bus safety drills, the purpose of today’s exercise was to practice the procedures used in the event that we have to put an emergency plan into action. Ms. Pelosky and I walked the building with Arlington County police officers to ensure that procedures were followed and to make any changes, if necessary.  Safety drills help us ensure that our students and staff know what to do, where to go, and how to respond if an emergency occurs. As always, our first priority is the safety and well-being of our Knights, our staff, and visitors.

Sincerely,
John Koutsouftikis Assistant Principal
