Dear Parents and Guardians,
Mr. Koutsouftikis and I have been working with Transportation to resolve the transportation issues that many of our Knights and their families encountered yesterday. We have been working internally with staff to clarify dismissal routines for all children including bus riders. Additional staff will be on hand to assist us at the black top dismissal and older students have been advised as to where to meet their siblings.
Pick- up/Walkers: Kindergarten parents/guardians are asked to congregate directly outside of their child’s classroom outside door. First grade parents/guardians are asked to congregate closer to the playground equipment. Large cones will be an indicator of where each grade level is gathering along with small cones delineating teachers in that respective grade. Second grade parents/guardians are asked to congregate inside along the fence line abutting the sidewalk. Third grade parents/ guardians are asked to congregate by the fence line next to Ohio Street. Fourth grade will dismiss through the gym doors. Fifth grade will dismiss through the front doors turning left down the ramp to pick up siblings or head towards home. Regarding bus riders:
Teachers have been given updated lists of children in their class who ride the bus. All students will ride home on the same bus number that took them to school in the morning, i.e., My child took Bus 516 in the morning and will ride Bus 516 home. Transportation has shared with us the following information concerning Nottingham bus schedules – regarding pick up and drop off times for the morning and afternoon runs. Families of students riding Nottingham Route 527. Transportation sincerely regrets any worry and inconvenience caused to families as a result of the late arrival of 527 on the afternoon of the first day of school. The bus was delayed significantly during its first route of the afternoon when the driver took a wrong turn. This initial delay was compounded as the bus completed its second route, ultimately resulting in its arrival to Nottingham at 4:35 PM, 54 minutes after dismissal. Delays in communication in transportation between the driver and the dispatch officer further complicated things. In order to prevent a recurrence of the problem, the importance of timely notification to Dispatch of any route delays was reiterated to drivers and Transportation will be closely monitoring the Nottingham arrival times over the next several weeks using the GPS tracking technology on the bus. *Please note that due to variations in traffic, students and families should report to the stop at least 5 minutes but not more than 10 minutes in advance of the scheduled time.
